Reserve materials are library items set aside by instructors for specific course use, such as textbooks, articles, media, or other required readings. These materials are kept at the Circulation Desk and may be borrowed for 24 hours to ensure all students have fair and timely access to essential course materials.
Buley Library offers a print and electronic reserve service for Southern students and faculty.
Students who are assigned reserve readings can search for their books on the online catalog.
How do I Access Print Course Reserves?
Students, who are assigned reserve readings, can locate a list of all print reserve material through the online catalog. All print reserves are kept at the Check Out Desk, located on the first floor of Buley Library.
Reserve material can be checked out at the Check Out Desk with a valid ID card. Most Reserve material check out for 24 hours unless specified by the Professor.
Faculty may put books and articles, from the library collection on Reserve for their students. Please fill out the online course Reserve form one month prior to the start of the semester. Access the library online catalog to ensure that we own the materials. Personal copies of books may also be placed on Reserve.
All material submitted to our Reserve Services may be protected by U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S. Code) which governs reproduction, distribution, public display, and certain other uses of protected works. We may refuse to put scanned articles, book chapters, and the like on reserve if we feel it violates copyright. All submitted materials should be used solely for instruction and follow the Fair Use Provisions.
