Q. What do I do to gain access to the library online databases?

A. Create a library pin # if you don't already have one to access our Online Databases.

Q. What is my library PIN, SCSU ID number, SCSU username, or MySCSU password?

A. Your library PIN allows you to log in to the databases from offcampus, see the CONSULS FAQ How do I obtain a library PIN code for more information. You SCSU ID number is an 8 digit number that starts with "7". It is NOT your Social Security Number. Your SCSU ID number is on your SCSU registration materials. Your SCSU username is your SCSU email name, see the MySCSU email search to find your username. You network /password is separate from your library PIN, and is the password for accessing MySCSU resources, including email. To change your network PIN number go to the SCSU Computer HelpDesk page.

Q. If I want to get a book or a copy of an article from the CSU system, what are my options?

A. For books, use CONSULS to search by author, title, keyword or subject. If a book is owned by one of the other CSU libraries, you can request it while you have the record on the screen by clicking on Request Book and indicate where you want the book sent. Note: You must pick up CONSULS books at a CSU library.

To get an article, go to the bottom of the Library Homepage, click on Interlibrary Loan and then Requests for Journal Articles. Fill out your request and the article will be mailed to your mailing address or emailed as a PDF attachment.

Q. If I want to renew a book, what do I need to do?

A. Go to CONSULS page, click on Log in to your library record, fill out your ID and password. Click on # of items checked out. Check mark the books you want to renew on the bottom of the page.

Q. If I want to get a book or a copy of an article not owned by Buley, what are my options?

A. Go to the bottom of the Library Homepage, click on Interlibrary Loan and then Request for Books or Requests for Journal Articles. Fill out your request and send.

Q. How can I find style manuals for information on how to do footnotes, references and bibliographies?

A. There are style manuals online that are easy to access and to use. (e.g. APA Style, MLA Style, Chicago Style.)

Q. Where can I find online, full-text dictionaries, thesauri, encyclopedias, phonebooks, almanacs, etc.?

A. Oxford English Dictionary can be accessed from the library home page. Click on "Online Databases". Select "alphabetical list" and click on the letter "O". Or scroll down the list of databases until you get to "Oxford English Dictionary". Select the link to get to OED's home page. On OED's home page, click on the Enter OED Online button to begin your search.
For Dictionaries/Thesaurus/Almanacs/Encyclopedias, go to http://www.encyclopedia.com/ or the Encyclopedia Britannica Online from the Online Databases list.
For Phonebooks, try http://www.infobel.com/teldir, or http://yp.yahoo.com/

Q. Where can I go for additional information about the Connecticut State University Libraries, such as hours, locations, floor plans, etc.?

A. Links to CSU libraries are on the CONSULS page. By clicking on the individual library icon, you should have access to the information. Or use reQuest, the online catalog for most Connecticut libraries.
